Three nights of blue and red spectroscopy of the extreme-amplitude dwarf no
va GW Lib at quiescence show that the orbital period is 79.4 minutes and th
e semiamplitude of the H beta emission-line velocity curve is 40.0 km s(-1)
. The emission lines are very narrow and are surrounded by absorption troug
hs. The spectra are roughly consistent with that of a white dwarf of temper
ature near 11,000 K contributing 100% of the light at a distance of 114 pc.
The short orbital period and low (M) over dot are consistent with the gene
ral properties of extreme-amplitude dwarf novae.
