2 TEPA-COPPER(II) COMPLEXES (TEPA IS TRIS[2-(2-PYRIDYL)ETHYL]AMINE)

In both the title compounds, aqua {tris [2-(2-pyridyl)ethyl]amine- N, N', N '', N'''}copper(II) bis(trifluoromethanesulfonate) monohydrate, [CU(C21H24N4)(H2O)]- (CF3SO3)(2).H2O, (1), and (acetato-O){tris[2-(2-p yridyl)ethyl]amine-N, N', N '',N'''}copper(II) hexafluorophosphate, [C U(C2H3O2)(C-21 H24N4)]PF6, (2), the Cu-II atom is pentacoordinate and the geometry is described as square-based pyramidal. Three of the atom s in the equatorial plane remain unchanged, i.e. N1, N2 and N3 from th e tripodal amine and two pyridine groups, respectively, while the four th ligand is a water molecule in (1) and an acetate group in (2). The axial position is occupied in both cases by the N4 atom of the third p yridine ring.
