Abstract
This article summarizes the most recent clinical pharmacologic studies of m ood stabilizers in children and adolescents with bipolar disorder. Based on these studies, a treatment algorithm is proposed. A brief review of the po tential biologic predictors of treatment response in this population and of the newer anticonvulsants with mood stabilizing properties (e.g., lamotrig ine, gabapentin, and topiramate) also is offered.
