Efficacy of some plant extracts for the management of Karnal bunt [Neovossia (Tilletia) indica] of wheat (Triticum aestivum)

A study was conducted during 1992-94 on the efficacy of leaf extract of pla nts against the Karnal bunt (Neovossia (Tilletia) indica) disease of the wh eet (Triticum aestivum L. emend. Fiori & Paol). Crude leaf extracts of Cann abis saliva L.(Hemp), Lantana camara L. (lantana), Ageratum conyzoides l (A geratum), Vitex negundo L. (banna), Azadirachta indica A. Juss. (Neem)., Ca ssia fistula L.(amaltas), Eucalyptus tereticornis, (safeda), Melia azdirach ta L. (Dek) and Murraya, koenghii L. (gandla), were sprayed on wheat at boo t leaf stage, 48 hr after inoculation with Neovossia (Tilletia) indica. Of these,the extracts of A. indica,L. camara gave more than 65% control of the disease as compared with the unsprayed check.
