Rm. De Orduna et U. Theobald, Intracellular glucose 6-phosphate content in Streptomyces coelicolor upon environmental changes in a defined medium, J BIOTECH, 77(2-3), 2000, pp. 209-218
A new, chemically defined medium providing dispersed growth and high biomas
s formation and a method for quantitative extraction of intracellular metab
olites was used to investigate the cellular response of Streptomyces coelic
olor A3(2) during growth and upon changes in nutrient utilization. Fast cha
nges of the glucose 6-phosphate content precisely signaled transitions in t
he how of carbon sources. The results indicate that intracellular pool size
s may be used to detect early nutrient limitations in view of the onset of
antibiotic production. Additionally the results disclose characteristics of
the regulation of maltose and glutamic acid uptake and degradation in S. c
oelicolor A3(2). (C) 2000 Elsevier Science B.V. All rights reserved.
