Recent advances in areas of both discrete wavelet transforms and continuous
wavelet transforms representing human visual system neural networks have r
esulted in improved video compression, restoration, and filtering technique
s. These software techniques are capable of achieving quality performance i
n video, and the computational complexity requires a special design hardwar
e called WaveNet to run a real time live video through radio. The brassboar
d integrated with computers can potentially provide us with many applicatio
ns, including remote sensors, security systems, and commercial and home vid
eo teleconferencing. This paper describes a low cost board to support a vid
eo compression, restoration, and filter system in real time processing. The
WaveNet board has been optimized for wavelet-based image and video compres
sion and enhancement techniques. (C) 1998 SPIE and IS&T. [S1017-9909(98)009
