Ts. Olivares et D. Burckhardt, JUMPING PLANT-LICE OF THE NEW-WORLD GENUS CALINDA (HEMIPTERA, PSYLLOIDEA, TRIOZIDAE), Revue Suisse de Zoologie, 104(2), 1997, pp. 231-344
The genus Calinda is removed from synonymy with Trioza and is redefine
d based on adult and larval characters. Its 50 constituent species, 36
of which are new, are described and illustrated. Keys are provided fo
r males, females and fifth instar larvae. Lectotypes are designated fo
r 3 species. The taxonomic relationships of 7 morphologically similar
Argentine and Chilean species are investigated using morphometric meth
ods. Members of the genus are associated with Baccharis s. l. (Bacchar
is s. str., Neomolina and Pingraea), Senecio and Pentacalia spp. (Aste
raceae). The larvae are monophagous or narrowly oligophagous and induc
e galls in the flower heads or on the shoots. The genus is most specie
s-rich in and along the Andes (Ecuador, Peru, Chile).
