Abstract
Several anaerobic bacteria are able to reductively dehalogenate chlori
nated hydrocarbons and to couple this reaction to the synthesis of AIP
via a chemiosmotic mechanism (dehalorespiration). A few reductive deh
alogenases have recently been purified and characterized. Preliminary
investigations have been performed to elucidate the mechanism of dehal
