G. Valacchi et V. Bocci, Studies on the biological effects of ozone: 10. Release of factors from ozonated human platelets, MEDIAT INFL, 8(4-5), 1999, pp. 205-209
IN a previous work we have shown that heparin, in the presence of ozone (O-
3), promotes a dose-dependent platelet aggregation, while after Ca2+ chelat
ion with citrate, platelet aggregation is almost negligible. These results
led us to think that aggregation may enhance the release of platelet compon
ents. We have here shown that indeed significantly higher amount of platele
t-derived growth factor (PDGF), transforming growth factor beta 1 (TGF-beta
1) and interleukin-8(IL-8) are released in a dose-dependent manner after o
zonation of heparinised platelet-rich plasma samples. These findings may ex
plain the enhanced healing of torpid ulcers in patients with chronic Limb i
schemia treated with O-3 autohaemoteraphy (O-3-AHT).
