Abstract
The evidence linking smoking and coronary artery disease is quite strong, a nd there is also a positive relationship between smoking cessation and redu ction in cardiovascular disease risk. Nicotine replacement therapy and bupr opion are effective treatments for smoking cessation and are most effective when combined with behavioral counseling. intensive multicomponent interve ntions that include a case-management component have produced the highest s moking cessation rates for patients who suffer a myocardial infarction.
