Agaricoid basidiomycetes of the Leningrad region - I. History of studies and some new data

Literature based review of the agaricoid basidiomycetes studies in the Leni ngrad region (Saint-Petersburg province) is presented. The papers by D. Gor ter, G. Sobolewski, J. A. Weinmann, A. Thesleff, R. Singer, V. P. Vassilkov , E. L. Nezdojminogo, A. E. Kovalenko, M. V. Stolarskaya and others publish ed from 1761 till 1998 are covered. About 920 species are known for the reg ion according to the data published during this period. An annotated list o f 31 species recorded from the region for the first time is also included.
