Abstract
The CD95 protein delivers crucial signals for lymphocyte death, and may als o negatively regulate T-lymphocyte activation by preventing the influx of c alcium ions from the cell's exterior. The block in calcium-ion influx occur s through the activation of acidic sphingomyelinase and the release of cera mide, a metabolite that can also induce cell death.
