Abstract
We confine 4x10(8) fermionic Li-6 atoms simultaneously with 9x10(9) bosonic Li-7 atoms in a magnetooptical trap based on an all-semiconductor laser sy stem. We optimize the two-isotope sample for sympathetic evaporative coolin g. This is an essential step towards the production of a quantum-degenerate gas of fermionic lithium atoms.
