Abstract
Transrectal ultrasound (TRUS) is one of the most valuable tools used in the detection and management of prostate cancer. TRUS, digital rectal examinat ion and prostate specific antigen results have combined predictive value fo r detection, but TRUS has become the gold standard for biopsy. Color Dopple r also has played a valuable role in biopsy guidance of previously missed c ancers. These techniques help identify high-risk patients (along with age a nd race) and help to reduce the number of very low risk biopsies performed.
