Abstract
A filament-type helium ion source has been developed for the purpose of alp ha particle diagnostics and as a test beam for electrostatic quadrupole tra nsport experiments. We have obtained preliminary results of He+ beam curren t, similar to 60 mA/cm(2). The normalized brightness of this beam is simila r to 10(10) A/(m rad)(2). The normalized emittance (90%) measured by multis lit faraday cup emittance meter is similar to 0.6 mm mrad below 100 V, 10 A arc discharge. The effects of plasma parameters in the source on the beam emittance and on the beam perveance are discussed. (C) 2000 American Instit ute of Physics. [S0034-6748(00)68102-9].
