M. Vargas et al., Trophic spectrum of concurrent fish in the Playa Chipana reproduction area(21 degrees 19'S-70 degrees 04'W), north of Chile, REV BIOL TR, 47(3), 1999, pp. 597-600
A total of 361 fishes including Odonthestes regia, Paralabrax humeralis, Is
acia conceptionis, Cilus gilberti, Menticirrhus ophicephalus, Sciaena delic
iosa and Scomber japonicus were collected in the nursery area Playa Chipana
(21 degrees 19'S), northern Chile, from August 1989 through December 1990
in order determine their feeding habits. Both planctonic and benthonic prey
s were determined in the trophic spectrum for seven species, for which the
main foods (MFI) were crustaceans (zoea, miscidaceans, Emerita analoga, Ogy
rides tarazonai) and fishes (Engraulis ringens, Odonthestes regia, Normanic
hthys croockeri). Three trophic guilds were preliminarily identificated: 1.
- carcinophagous fishes, 2.- ichthiophagous fishes, and 3.- planctophagous
fishes.
