A silica-supported poly-gamma-mercaptopropylsiloxane palladium(0) comp
lex was prepared from poly-gamma-mercaptopropylsiloxane and palladium
chloride in acetone, followed by reduction with hydrazine in ethanol.
The complex is a highly active and stereoselective catalyst for arylat
ion of styrene and acrylic acid affording a variety of trans-stilbenes
and substituted trans-cinnamic acids in high yields.
