The stomach contents of 893 specimens of Trachinus draco taken at monthly i
ntervals off the eastern coast of the Gulf of Valencia (Spain), were analyz
ed to determine diet according to fish size and season. Crustaceans (Mysida
cea and Decapoda) and teleosts constituted the main prey. Feeding habits va
ried with predator size; small specimens contained a greater number of mysi
ds in their stomachs, while decapods and fishes were more abundant in the s
tomachs of larger specimens. Little seasonal variation in food habits was n
oticed.
