Bis[(mu-O,O '-salicylato)(2,2 '-bipyridyl)-copper(II)] acetylsalicylic acid dihydrate

The asymmetric unit of the title compound, bis(mu-2-hydroxybenzoato-O-1,O-2 :O-2)bis[(2,2'-bipyridyl-N,N')copper(II)]-acetylsalicylic acid-water (1/1/2 ), [Cu-2(C7H4O3)(2)(C10H8N2)(2)]. C9H8O4. 2H(2)O, contains a binuclear copp er complex, one acetylsalicylic acid molecule and two water molecules. Both crystallographically independent Cu-II atoms of the mixed binuclear unit s how analogous distorted elongated square-pyramidal coordination (of the typ e 4+1). Each Cu-II atom is surrounded by one 2,2'-bipyridyl chelate and two salicylate anions. The crystal packing is characterized by several intermo lecular hydrogen bonds.
