The streamline method is applied to simulate solids Row in a blast furnace
by superposing potential sources at the lower parts of the furnace model on
to a viscous down-flow stream, This superposition yields a stationary zone
at the bottom to simulate the so-called 'deadman' in a blast furnace. A bou
ndary layer is added on the deadman to satisfy the condition of no slipping
there. As a result, analytic expressions for solids velocities have been o
btained and the experimental results could be satisfactorily predicted, i.e
. there exists a higher velocity in the how region between the side wall an
d the central deadman along the depth in a three-dimensional cold model of
a blast furnace with coarse polystyrene beads.
