Introduction: Prostate stenting has been used increasingly in obstructive b
ladder outlet symptoms since the Fabian-spiral was first described in 1980.
Various complications are nevertheless associated with this therapy. In pa
rticular, dislocation of the stent and voiding symptoms are reported freque
ntly.
Case Report: The patient described here developed hematuria and later on ur
inary retention 44 months after implantation of a Memokath 028 stent becaus
e of BPH. These complaints were caused by ingrowth of the stent into the pr
ostate. Necessitating a TUR of the prostate to remove the stent.
Conclusion: Although various complications can occur with stenting of the p
rostatic urethra, this therapy offers a good alternative to long-term cathe
therization in regard to both rate of complications and cost of therapy.
