Intersite transfer of industrial calibration models

Two instrument standardisation methods, the piecewise direct standardisatio n and a method based on neural networks, are compared for the transfer of i ndustrial near-infrared powder spectra between two sites. Some important is sues that can affect transfer, such as influence of signal preprocessing or representativity of standardisation samples are discussed in detail. Parti cularities and limitations specific to each transfer method are outlined. I n particular, it is shown that both methods lead to different reconstructio n results in the presence of structured background noise. (C) 2000 Elsevier Science B.V. All rights reserved.
