M. Khanna et al., MESQUITE GUM (PROSOPIS JULIFLORA) - POTENTIAL BINDER IN TABLET DOSAGEFORMS, Journal of Scientific & Industrial Research, 56(6), 1997, pp. 366-368
Use of mesquite gum in tablet formulation by direct compression aad we
t granulation method has been evaluated. Binding property of mesquite
gum has been compared with the commercially used Acacia and Tragacanth
gums. Tablets were prepared using 2 to 12 per cent increasing concent
rations of mesquite gum. The effect of concentration on extent of bind
ing has been evaluated by the parameters of weight variation, hardness
, per cent friability and disintegration time of tablets prepared. Gra
nule properties like particle size distribution, bulk density, per cen
t compressibility, angle of repose etc, were studied. Suspensions were
prepared in 2 to 20 per cent solution of mesquite gum and their stabi
lity and sedimentation behaviour was studied to evaluate suspending pr
operty.
