Y. Yamasaki et al., The role of surgery in renal cell carcinoma with solitary metachronous metastasis to contralateral adrenal gland, ANTICANC R, 19(6C), 1999, pp. 5575-5576
We report a case of renal cell carcinoma with solitary metachrnous metastas
is to contralateral adrenal gland occurring 9 months after radical nephrect
omy. The patient was treated with a contralateral adrenalectomy and is aliv
e for 87 months. The literature was reviewed and 5-year survival of solitar
y metachrnous metastasis to contralateral adrenal gland was 60%. Follow-rip
duration of our case was the longest in the literature. It is suggested th
at the solitary contralateral adrenal gland metastasis of renal cell carcin
oma should be resected since there is no effective treatment of metastatic
renal cell carcinoma. Good prognosis may be then and the good be expected.
