Abstract
The relation between the effect of glutathione(GSH)modulating compounds and platinum compounds (Cisplatin, Nedaplatin)-induced cytotoxicity was invest igated Pretreatment human glioblastoma (T98G, U87MG) and glioma (KG1C) cell lines with L-buthionine-[S,R]-sulfoximine, which decrease the intracellula r GSH concentration, remarkably increased their sensitivity against platinu m compounds, whereas pretreatment with N-acetyl-L-cysteine, which increase the intracellular GSH concentration, only marginally protected the cells fr om the cytotoxic effect of platinum compounds. The results suggest that pla tinum compounds-induced cytotoxicity can be modified by GSH-modulating comp ounds in glioblastoma and glioma cell lines.
