Abstract
The Kyocera Gyro C1E3 centrifugal blood pump was clinically applied for a c
ardiopulmonary bypass (CPB) of coronary artery bypass grafting (CABG). The
patient was 72-year-old male with postinfarction unstable angina. The surge
ry was carried out on November 20, 1998. The air inside the pump was easily
and quickly re moved, and its controllability was excellent. The pump flow
during operation was maintained 2.2 L/m(2). Total CPB time was 173 min. Pe
rioperative parameters of hemolysis and cytotoxicity were not remarkably ch
anged. Macroscopically and microscopically, there were no thrombi inside th
e pump after usage. This is the first reported case of clinical use of the
Kyocera Gyro C1E3 pump.
