Abstract
An expression is derived for estimating the bit error rate (BER) performanc e of a Reed-Solomon (RS) coded baseband data system with ideal interleaving in an impulse noise channel. The derivation is based on the probability de nsity functions (pdf) of the amplitude, duration and inter-arrival time of impulse noise obtained in a recent study carried out in the German telephon e network. The new BER expression consists of only a two-fold summation whe reas an earlier BER expression consisted of a four-fold summation.
