Abstract
A polarisation-insensitive wavelength converter using four-wave mixing (FWM ) in a semiconductor optical amplifier (SOA) has been realised. The convert er uses a novel polarisation-diversity scheme which requires only one SOA. Polarisation-insensitive wavelength conversion (< 1dB polarisation sensitiv ity) and a near constant (< 3dB variation) conversion efficiency was achiev ed over a range of 26nm.
