Abstract
We report an experimental perturbation method to produce local spatio-tempo ral velocity perturbations. It has been successfully tested on the Benard-v on Karman instability for a circular cylinder at subcritical Reynolds numbe rs Re < Re-c. It is found to be useful in determining some physical propert ies of the instability.
