We describe a patient with life-threatening puerperal sepsis developing 6 h
ours after cesarean section. Hysterectomy was performed to control intraabd
ominal bleeding from the septic uterus. The patient developed a systemic in
flammatory response syndrome with multiple organ dysfunction including temp
orary kidney failure. Splenectomy and bilateral salpingo-oophorectomy were
required to control the infectious process.
