Abstract
THE AUTHORS DESCRIBE UNUM, AN ARCHITECTURE FOR INTEGRATING COMMUNICATIONS F UNCTIONALITY INTO THE CPU. UNUM NOT ONLY SIMPLIFIES THE DESIGN OF COMMUNICA TIONS PROCESSORS BUT ALSO IMPROVES THEIR PERFORMANCE AND PROVIDES THEM WITH GREATER FLEXIBILITY.
