The influence of fast neutron irradiation on the intragrain critical c
urrents density, J(c), and on the position of the irreversibility line
in YBa2Cu4O8 (124) ceramics was studied in fields up to 8 T. The high
est radiation-induced enhancement of J(c) occurs at comparatively low
fluences (< 5.5-10(21) m-2) and shows an unusual temperature dependenc
e, namely a maximum at about 40 K. A shift of the irreversibility line
to higher fields and temperatures is observed after irradiation. The
depinning fields are proportional to (1-T/T(c))alpha. The exponent alp
ha decreases after irradiation from 1.76 (unirradiated sample) to 1.49
(at the highest fluence).
