Y. Gallet et al., New constraints on the Upper Permian and Lower Triassic geomagnetic polarity timescale from the Abadeh section (central Iran), J GEO R-SOL, 105(B2), 2000, pp. 2805-2815
We present the magnetostratigraphy of the Abadeh section (central Iran), Th
ermal demagnetization shows two magnetic components: one at low unblocking
temperatures, which corresponds to a present day-field direction, and anoth
er: at:high temperatures. This second component, which contains both polari
ties, is interpreted,as a primary magnetization acquired during sediment de
position at a paleolatitude of about 7.7 degrees S. A sequence of 14 magnet
ic polarity zones is obtained in the intervals during the Upper Dzhulfian-L
ower Changhsingian (Upper Permian) and during the Griesbachian: (Lower Tria
ssic). Combining data from south China, Canada, Pakistan, and Iran, we prop
ose a composite (but still uncomplete) Upper Permian and Lower Triassic geo
magnetic polarity timescale.
