The infrared (IR) spectra of binary silver thioborate xAg(2)S + (1 - x)B2S3
glasses (0.3 less than or equal to x less than or equal to 0.56) and terna
ry zAgI + (1 - z) [0.5Ag(2)S + 0.5B(2)S(3)] glasses (0 less than or equal t
o z less than or equal to 0.3) are reported. The structure of the binary gl
asses changes with an increase in modifier content as observed by a monoton
ic decrease in the fraction of tetrahedrally coordinated boron units and an
increase in the fraction of orthothioborate units. This reduction in four
coordinated boron and increase in tri-coordinated orthothioborate boron uni
ts has been seen in the alkali thioborates and analogous silver berate glas
ses. The structure of the ternary glasses shows little to no change in the
IR spectra with an increase in AgI (z) up to 30 mol%. This result agrees wi
th previous studies performed on alkali thioborate and silver berate glasse
