Abstract
The radiation emission of the He-beta lines 1s3p P-3(1) --> 1s(2) S-1(0) h nu and 1s3p P-1(1) --> 1s(2) S-1(0) + h nu in dense optically thick and n on-Maxwellian plasmas is found to be sensitive to higher multipole orders b oth for the radiation transitions and the collisional excitation cross sect ions. It is demonstrated that magnetic dipole and even quadrupole radiation transitions influence not only the absolute radiation line emission but al so their qualitative evolution in dense plasmas. The proposed radiation mod el describes the He-beta emission for low- and high-density plasmas and ena bles diagnostics under typical conditions of both magnetic and inertial fus ion plasmas.
