Abstract
Ce:BaTiO3 nanocrystallites were prepared on fused quartz substrates by puls ed laser deposition. The structural properties of the nanocrystallites were studied by scanning electron microscopy and x-ray diffraction. The refract ive indices and absorption edges were obtained from the optical transmissio n spectra with an approximate formula. The incidence and polarization angle -dependent second-harmonic generation (SHG) were measured. The effective SH G coefficient was reduced by decreasing the deposition temperature. Some po ssible mechanisms of the correlation between the SHG coefficient and the de position temperature are discussed. (C) 2000 Optical Society of America [S0 740-3224(00)01702-1].
