Background: Liposarcomas of the tongue are rare. To date only 7 cases have
been reported. Patient: We report a new case of a well differentiated lipom
a-like liposarcoma of the body of the tongue in a 71-year old woman. Comple
te uneventful resection was performed. Histologically the tumor consisted o
f fat cells with occasional lipo-blasts and spindle cell areas. There is no
sign of recurrence of the tumor 2 years later. Results and Conclusions: Li
posarcomas of the tongue are rare neoplasms. All cases reported were histol
ogically well differentiated. Liposarcomas have to be considered in the dif
ferential diagnosis of solid masses of the tongue.
