Abstract
We investigate a new rectangular element for the Reissner-Mindlin model bas ed on the primitive variable system. Nonconforming rotated Q(1) element is used to approximate the transverse displacement, and the biquadratic elemen t is used for the rotation. A convergent error estimate is obtained, which is independent of the thickness of the plate. (C) 2000 John Wiley & Sons, I nc.
