Results of the investigation of chemical exchange through the water-sediment interface in the Gelendzik Bay of the Black Sea

In July 1997 in Gelendzhik Bay of the Black Sea studies into the chemical e xchange through the bottom-water interface were performed using the chamber technique, as well as by chemical analyses of the interstitial water apply ing Fick's law and by regression analysis to the data on the distribution o f the contents of dissolved forms of chemical elements depending on the dis posal depth. A consideration of the potentialities of various investigation techniques for the studies of chemical exchange through the bottom-water i nterface allows one to give preference to the chamber procedure. The trends for the development of the techniques noted are assessed from the publishe d data.
