Abstract
X-ray magnetic circular dichroism (XMCD) measurements have been performed u nder high pressures and used to study the disordered Fe72Pt28 Invar alloy i n conjunction with X-ray diffraction. The high-spin-to-low-spin state trans ition is observed at 4 GPa by both techniques and is compared with previous work. Furthermore, XMCD shows the complete disappearance of the magnetic m oment at high pressures in this alloy. A hysteresis cycle of the pressure-d ependent magnetic moment is also evidenced.
