Rayleigh identity based on a multipole expansion theory is extended to inve
stigate the structure and mechanical properties of induced electrorheologic
al solid. Evaluation of effective dielectric constant is emphasized. The de
pendence of the shear stress on the shear strain and the shear modulus for
