Magnetic interlayer coupling between two Co layers across Cu/Ni-30/Cu-70/Cu
(100) was investigated by the surface magneto-optic Kerr effect. The Ni30Cu
70 layer at the center of the Cu layer was shown to shift the peak position
s, rather than to change the strength, of the magnetic interlayer coupling.
The density of states near the Fermi level was investigated by photoemissi
on spectroscopy. We show that the peak-position shift in the magnetic inter
layer coupling is associated with the quantum-well behavior in a symmetric
double-quantum-well system. The phase accumulation model was applied to exp
lain the results quantitatively.
