Abstract
Use of an alpha-chloroacetyl group allows for the conditional N-terminal ca pping of peptides. This capping group is easily introduced and stable over a broad pH range, but can be converted to glycine by aqueous ammonia treatm ent in order to perform N-terminal Edman peptide sequencing.
