A biogenetically patterned synthetic route to the monoterpenoid quinoline a lkaloids 20-deoxycamptothecin and (+/-)-camptothecin from secologanin and t ryptamine via vincoside/strictosidine lactams has now been realized, and he nce afforded likely biosynthetic intermediates for testing in vivo.
