The paper presents results of Monte Carlo modeling of an experimental Accel
erator Driven System (PLDS), which employs a subcritical assembly and a 660
MeV proton accelerator operating at the Laboratory of Nuclear Problems of
the Joint Institute for Nuclear Research in Dubna. The mix of oxides (PuO2
+ UO2) MOX fuel designed for the reactor will be adopted for the core of th
e assembly. The present conceptual design of the experimental subcritical a
ssembly in Dubna is based on the core with a nominal unit capacity of 30 kW
(thermal). This corresponds to the multiplication coefficient k(eff) = 0.9
45 and the accelerator beam power of 1 kW.
