Kb. Veena et al., DEPLETION OF ENERGY RESERVES DURING OVARIAN DEVELOPMENT IN ETROPLUS-MACULATUS (BLOCH), Indian journal of marine sciences, 26(1), 1997, pp. 101-103
The ovarian maturation in Etroplus maculatus (Bloch), an estuarine tel
eost brought about well marked changes in the various energy reserves.
Protein from the muscle and liver was used up most. Lipid concentrati
ons got depleted considerably during advanced stages of maturity. Alth
ough glycogen seemed to have no part to play during reproduction, an i
ncreased concentration of lactic acid indicated that a considerable qu
antity of glycogen was definitely used up during maturation.
