Most Daghestanian languages show gender agreement between nouns and a broad
set of targets, like verbs, adjectives, and local expressions. Dargi diffe
rs from other Daghestanian languages, among others, in that it shows person
agreement in the verb as well. For that reason examples from the written s
tandard are sometimes adduced in general linguistic literature. This articl
e presents partly new data from the dialect of Akusha. An attempt will be m
ade to find an adequate explanation for the presence of both ergative-absol
utive and nominative-accusative patterns of agreement.
