We have observed the rapid loss of nitroxide anion ((NO-)-N-3) in a Fourier
transform ion cyclotron resonance mass spectrometer (FT-ICR). The loss ari
ses from two effects: a pressure-dependent component consistent with collis
ional electron detachment from (NO-)-N-3, and a pressure-independent loss t
hat we attribute to direct (bound-free) photodetachment induced by light em
ission from a heated filament inside the cell.
