Abstract
During a feeding trial conducted with a probiotic (Deodoricum) containing B acillus spores a decrease in the stall fly population was observed, The aim of this study was to examine on the one hand the larvicid effects: of cult ures of Bacillus sp in various stages of growth and on the other hand the i nhibitory effects of cultures of Bacillus sp, and dried Deodoricum preparat es on egg laying by gravid adult females, Media for sustaining the larvae c ontaining spores at concentrations of 9.2x10(9) and 1.2x10(11) killed a lar ge proportion of the larvae thus reducing their numbers to a significantly lower level than in the case of other samples and that of controls, The lar vicid effect was proportional with the number of spores. In the experiment with adults, the preparate with the dried Deodoricum containing spores and the fermentation solution in a concentrated form proved most effective, The effect is presumably due to the concentrated fermentation solution's inhib ition of egg laying by gravid females.
