C. Obasi et La. Obasi, Granulometry of magnetite and the changing mineral formation conditions atthe Itakpe iron ore deposit, Nigeria, MIN MET PR, 17(1), 2000, pp. 65-68
Investigations were carried out to determine the effects of changing metamo
rphic conditions on the formation of magnetite from the Itakpe iron ore dep
osit. Various magnetite grain sizes from ferruginous quartzites from differ
ent zones were determined and analyzed statistically. The results reflect t
he reaction of mineral individuals. In particular, the granulometry of magn
etite changed with changes in the mineral formation conditions in the depos
it and carr elate with the mineralo-geochemical zones. This is interpreted
as part of a readjustment of the mineral to the prevailing conditions. Beca
use granulometry is a prebeneficiation parameter, this work will be, no dou
bt, of importance to the exploitation and beneficiation of the quartzites a
nd I-ich ores.
